DESCRIPTION

 

The Certificate TESOL course at ECM will help you to:

 

- Explain the main features of standard contemporary English (grammatical, lexical and phonological).
– Take account of the needs and motivations of learners, individually in groups and in different contexts.
– To gain and maintain learners’ interest and create a good atmosphere for learning.
– Prepare purposeful lessons plans with achievable aims which use appropriate methods for learners.
– Manage the active participation of learners in activities and provide relevant learning opportunities.
– Select, use and adapt and create simple and effective class materials (print, visual, audio, video, ICT).
– Identify the main advantages and disadvantages of different approaches to language teaching.
– Reflect on, and work to improve effectiveness as a teacher, individually and in a teaching team.
– Identify avenues for further development in the profession.
– Decide how begin to go about getting a job teaching English as a second or other language.

Entry requirements

You don’t need to be a native English speaker, speak a foreign language, or have teaching experience.

You must be at least 18 years old and have:

– An interest in learning and teaching.
– Good interpersonal and organisational skills.
– The ability to deal with the demands of an intensive course.
– The academic skills to handle the course, which are equivalent to those needed to study at degree level. (You will be asked to produce a copy of your most significant academic certificate).
– Be able to communicate accurately and fluently in spoken and written English. (If English is not you first language you will need an IELTS score of 7.0 across the language skills, or equivalent. If English is your first language then applicants are expected to have successfully completed a public exam in the subject at second level.)
