Our General English courses at ECM School of English help develop students’ overall knowledge of the English language. The courses also help prepare students for the internationally recognised EDI exam. All classes have a focus on both grammar and vocabulary which the learner then puts into practice through skills development: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The classes are designed to provide maximum opportunity for practice of the four skills.

The FCE Exam Preparation part of the programme is delivered 1h/day and engages students at the level of specific exam skill. Students learn to analyse questions, thoroughly prepare drafts and work within time limits. Mock exam situations are also included so as students are fully able to apply their knowledge to their full potential on the day of the exam.

Extra learning activities: Grammar workshop, Conversation Exchange, Pronunciation Workshop, CV and Interview Preparation workshop.

MODULES

The general weekly syllabus is then broken down to form a day to day plan of the exact material to be covered in each lesson and provides the page reference numbers for the units for ease of use. The information includes:

  • Language Function e.g. Asking personal information

  • Grammar Point e.g. Present Simple

  • Vocabulary e.g. Personality adjectives

  • Phonology e.g. Vowel Sounds

The syllabus explicitly links the material covered to the stated CEFR objectives that students should master at that level.

In relation to the exam preparation part of the programme, students work on each of the four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Each of these skills receives full attentionon a weekly basis. This allows the students to build up their knowledge gradually during the course and affords them plenty of opportunities for revision throughout.
